Reducing a chronic infectious burden, like periodontal disease, on the immune system has always been important, but the pandemic has driven this point home. In one recent study, patients with COVID-19 and periodontitis were 9 times more likely to die, 3 times more likely to be admitted to the ICU, and 4 times more likely to need a ventilator than patients with COVID and without periodontitis. Gum health matters and periodontal therapy deserves a central focus in our practices.
Chronic gingival infections do not respond particularly well to antibiotics. We’ve tried them for decades and we have very high rates of disease. We’ve also entered a post-antibiotic age according to the CDC. You can treat your patients more effectively with long-term success by incorporating prescription tray delivery of hydrogen peroxide gel deep into periodontal pockets. Research shows that this delivery combined with SRP leads to more significant pocket depth and bleeding reductions than SRP alone. In this 2-hour video, you will learn the science behind the delivery, its practical implementation, case presentation ideas, and everyday business calculations.

Meet the Instructors
Dr. Lou Graham
is the founder of the Catapult Education, a continuing education company whose philosophy and programs use contemporary, interactive formats to integrate time-proven conservative dentistry with 21st century materials and techniques. Dr. Graham maintains an active clinical practice in Chicago. He emphasizes the same concepts he practices: dental health diagnosis, treatment plans for medically compromised patients, conservative treatment, cosmetic dentistry, and customized approaches to periodontal care, implants and laser dentistry.
Charissa Wood, RDH
Charissa Wood, RDH has been a practicing dental hygiene for 25 years. She is especially passionate about the oral systemic connection and helping her patients cross from poor health to wellness! She has been an avid user and promoter of PerioTray™ therapy for the last 8 years, helping her patients achieve true health and wellness. In addition to providing patient care, she acts as the hygiene team lead for Atlanta Dental Spa, a four-location practice and has conducted practice consulting to elevate hygiene team systems and production in private practices. She also partners in leading Bulletproof Hygiene to build hygiene culture and champion the profession. Outside of dentistry, Charissa loves spending time with her husband, her two teenage boys, and friends and family.
