Course Description
Modern preparation designs emphasize gentle, caries-specific removal, selective retention, and beveling to maximize enamel rod engagement while preserving healthy structure. For Class II restorations, utilizing anatomic, clear, matrices and wedges ensures proper contour, contact, and adaptation with minimal stress posterior teeth.
In this case-based course, Dr. Joshua Solomon will demonstrate minimally invasive approaches to Class I and Class II preparations, incorporating updated instrumentation and clinical techniques. High-definition overhead typodont demonstrations will be included.
Learning Objectives
- Describe how modern composite materials influence preparation design compared to traditional G.V. Black principles
- Identify conservative, caries-specific preparation strategies for Class I and Class II restorations
- Explain the role of margin refinement and enamel preservation in improving restorative longevity
- Discuss matrix and wedge selection considerations for achieving proper proximal contour and contact
