Course Description

The patient in your chair may not just need dental care. They may need someone to recognize the signs that no one else has.

In this eye-opening presentation, Loren King, RDH, shares how human trafficking intersects with healthcare and why dental professionals are uniquely positioned to recognize potential indicators and appropriately support vulnerable patients. Attendees will learn survivor-informed screening strategies, the PEARR protocol, trauma-informed communication techniques, and practical steps they can implement in their own practices.

This session will leave you not only informed, but empowered to respond safely and appropriately when concerns arise.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply hospitality principles from world-class organizations within the dental practice.
  • Design patient touchpoints that reduce uncertainty and build trust.
  • Identify communication techniques that can help patients transition from a stress response to a calmer, more engaged state.

Loren King, RDH

Loren King is a dental hygienist, global public speaker, human trafficking awareness advocate, and founder of Finding Anon. With more than a decade of experience in dentistry, Loren brings a clinical perspective to one of healthcare’s most overlooked responsibilities: recognizing when a patient may be experiencing exploitation or trafficking.

Her work helps dental professionals identify warning signs, respond through a trauma informed lens, document appropriately, and understand their reporting responsibilities without placing themselves or the patient at greater risk. Loren has educated dental professionals across the United States and internationally, translating a complex and emotionally difficult subject into practical guidance clinicians can use in everyday practice.

Through her speaking, education, and advocacy, Loren is committed to helping healthcare professionals recognize and respond to the people who too often remain unseen.
