Health, Nutrition and Exercise for the Dentist, Their Staff and Patients

This Lecture course can be given as full day program or half-day program.

Roughly 30% of all Americans are now considered overweight. The number of morbidly obese individuals has increased every year from the time statistics have been recorded. America’s appetite is steadily increasing. Couple this with the fact that most Americans have jobs that require little to no physical activity and you have an alarming situation. This course will outline the health crisis facing Americans and discuss the potential role dentists can play in assisting their staff and patients in working towards total systemic health. The evidence that has emerged in the last decade linking dental health and systemic health is now irrefutable. Dentists are now viewed as an integral part of the total health care team and often the first to identify potentially life-threatening conditions. As role models to our staff and patients, it is essential that we adopt a healthy life style and mirror the behavior we desire for out patients. This course will discuss the steps all can take to achieve optimal health and physical well-being. During this program clinicians will learn how to:

  • Establish a healthy lifestyle for themselves and their family
  • Encourage staff and patients to modify behaviors to increase their own physical health
  • Set measurable exercise and dietary goals to optimize results
  • Discuss diet, nutrition and systemic health with their patients
  • Relate diet and exercise to oral health
  • Motivate patients to change modifiable behaviors to improve their oral and systemic health

"These were our best speakers ever (Dr. Marc Geissberger and Dr. Foroud Hakim). They received all "excellent" on their evaluations and they were very entertaining. The best test was Friday and Saturday afternoons-no one was sleeping and no one left early. I definitely will ask these two speakers back. Thanks so much for a wonderfully organized and informative seminar."
